Custer Cabins: Blue Bell Lodge

If you’re traveling to the Black Hills of South Dakota, you can’t go wrong staying in Custer State Park. Located near Rapid City, this state park rivals many national parks in terms of awesomeness! Fortunately, there are many Custer Cabins available right in the middle of the action!

We stayed in the Blue Bell Lodge honeymoon cabin.

Check-in for Blue Bell Lodge Cabins is in the main building as is the restaurant.

Our cabin had a king size bed, a pull out sofa bed, and a fireplace.

The cabin also had a small table with 4 chairs which was perfect for playing cards one rainy afternoon.

This Blue Bell Lodge Cabin had a small kitchenette, so we ate some of our meals at the cabin’s picnic table.

There was also a fire pit and wood for cooking s’mores!

A huge benefit of making Custer State Park your Black Hills trip home base – magnificent wildlife viewing opportunities!

We were able to begin and end each day enjoying the wildlife – particularly the buffalo! It was so much fun to see where the herds roamed each day!

One morning, I was startled by some grunting while eating my breakfast at the picnic table! Fortunately, the herd was just down the hill below our cabin.

All of those buffalo encounters left us with a souvenir… a small dent in our vehicle where one gave us a little nudge! There is no way I’m getting that dent fixed!

We did have one not-so-positive wildlife encounter during our stay at Custer State Park Blue Bell Lodge. On our last night, a mouse decided to pay us a visit. I did not take his picture.

All in all, I was very pleased with our choice to stay in Custer State Park. And, I won’t even hold that extra cabin guest against them…too much.

  1. Those cabins look so nice. We stayed in a motel in Custer…had the benefit of being able to walk to restaurants, but I’d trade that for being in the midst of wildlife like that.
