Kauai, often called the Garden Isle, is famed for its lush landscapes, dramatic cliffs, stunning beaches, and, of course, its ever-present wild chickens. Our time on this beautiful island was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, with pristine shorelines, scenic hikes, and delicious local eats. Here’s a glimpse into our Kauai vacation.

Day 1: Arrival and Island First Impressions of Our Kauai Vacation
We were excited to finally land in Kauai, and as we stepped off the plane, we couldn’t help but smile when we noticed our Hawaiian-themed plane, a fun start of our trip.

On our first evening, we dined at the Lava Lava Beach Club, where we took in a spectacular Hawaiian sunset from the beachfront.

We stayed near Kapa’a, a convenient base for exploring the island’s many attractions. After picking up snacks and essentials at Wal-Mart, we were ready to settle in and enjoy the week ahead.
It didn’t take long to spot some of Kauai’s famous residents—the wild chickens that roam the island.

Day 2: Snorkeling, Diving, and Glass Beach
Our first full day in paradise kicked off with an exciting dive and snorkel tour from Port Allen, offering a perfect mix of underwater exploration for both divers and snorkelers in the family. Everyone got to experience Kauai’s vibrant marine life up close.

After the tour, we enjoyed a laid-back lunch at the Port Allen Sunset Bar and Grill, the ideal spot to relax and recharge.

Next, we headed to Glass Beach, where the ocean has worn down pieces of glass into smooth, colorful pebbles. We enjoyed a relaxing beach-combing stroll and left with a few small keepsakes.

After a brief rest, we stopped by Aloha Juice Bar in Hanalei for a refreshing treat to cool down from the day’s adventures.

We were lucky to have secured a 4 PM parking reservation at Ha’ena State Park, which allowed us to spend the late afternoon soaking up the sun and relaxing on the beautiful Ke’e Beach—the perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Day 3: Kauai Vacation R&R
Day 3 of our Kauai vacation was all about R&R. We slept in, grabbed sandwiches, and enjoyed a leisurely picnic lunch at Spouting Horn Park, of course, while being surrounded by Kauai’s famous chickens.

We spent some time watching the impressive blowhole shoot water high into the air—a mesmerizing natural spectacle.

In the afternoon, we headed to Waipouli Beach near Kapa’a for some quiet time, lounging on the sand and soaking in the peaceful island vibes.

For dinner, we kept it casual with takeout from Diamond’s Pizza, wrapping up a perfectly relaxed day.

Day 4: Kalalau Trail Adventure
A major highlight of our Kauai vacation was hiking the Kalalau Trail in Ha’ena State Park. With shuttle tickets in hand, we set off on the 2-mile trek to Hanakāpī‘Ai Beach, a hike that took us up and over scenic terrain.

Once we reached the beach, we enjoyed a picnic lunch and spent a few hours exploring the area before heading back. The effort was well rewarded with breathtaking views along the way.

After the hike, we treated ourselves at a local food truck park, indulging in Wishing Well Shaved Ice, Holy Grail Donuts, and some flavorful Thai Elephant Pad Thai—the perfect way to refuel.

Day 5: Moloa’a Beach and Helicopter Tour Finale
We spent our final full day on Kauai enjoying a quiet morning at Moloa’a Beach, a peaceful and less-crowded spot that allowed us to savor the natural beauty of the island.

The afternoon brought the grand finale of our Kauai adventure: a Safari Helicopter Tour. This once-in-a-lifetime experience gave us an aerial view of Kauai’s breathtaking landscapes, including the iconic Na’pali Coast, towering cliffs, and cascading waterfalls.

After the tour, we headed to Poipu Beach to see the sea turtles and seals that frequent the area. Watching these incredible creatures up close was a truly magical experience.

We ended the day with a delicious dinner at Brennecke’s Beach Broiler, enjoying a meal with a perfect view of the ocean.

Farewell to the Garden Isle
All too soon, it was time to say goodbye to Kauai. While we were sad to leave this tropical paradise behind, we were equally excited for our next adventure exploring the Big Island. Our Kauai vacation had given us memories we’ll cherish for years to come.
