Why You’ll Love the Branson Aquarium

Located right on Highway 76, the main strip where everything happens in Branson, the Branson Aquarium is hard to miss.

The bright blue building with the giant red octopus stretching across the front sets the tone for what’s inside: colorful, creative, and a whole lot of fun.

We visited on a Saturday evening, and to our surprise, it wasn’t crowded at all.

We spent about an hour and a half exploring, which was plenty of time to see everything at a nice, relaxed pace.

The aquarium isn’t huge, but it’s extremely well done, bright, clean, and full of beautiful displays.

The Dive Begins

When you first walk in, you’re greeted by that massive octopus where they take your picture.

Just beyond the entrance, several tanks feature a fun carnival theme, complete with colorful puffer fish and a scrawled cowfish.

Next comes the short 3D motion ride that makes you feel like you’re diving beneath the ocean’s surface. The seats move just enough to add a little excitement without being too intense, perfectly setting the stage for the adventure ahead.

Walking Through the Ocean

One of the most striking parts of the Branson Aquarium is the tunnel walkway, where you’re surrounded by sea life.

It’s mesmerizing to watch sharks, rays, and schools of fish swim above and around you.

You can even look up through a glass ceiling section and see the undersides of stingrays gliding gracefully overhead.

In the main tanks, we spotted leopard sharks, blue-spotted ribbon-tailed rays, cow-nose rays, a Volitan lionfish, and even a striking dragon moray eel.

Meeting Miss Archie

One of the aquarium’s most beloved residents is Miss Archie, a green sea turtle.

She’s easy to recognize because one of her back fins is missing, and she wears a small weight on her shell that helps her maintain buoyancy. Despite her injury, she moves beautifully through the water, and watching her swim is oddly peaceful.

Color and Light

Every corner of the aquarium is filled with color, but the Fluorescing Corals exhibit takes it to another level. In the dim lighting, the corals glow in brilliant neon hues of purple, green, and blue thanks to special lighting that shows off their natural fluorescence.

Another favorite stop was the Bloom Room, where delicate jellyfish float in tall cylindrical tanks that shimmer with changing light.

The mirrored walls make it feel like you’re surrounded by glowing jellyfish drifting endlessly in every direction.

Fun for Kids (and Grown-Ups Who Still Act Like Them)

There’s a kelp-themed climbing area where kids can burn off some energy.

And a crawl-under tunnel that leads to a bubble-shaped viewing dome inside one of the tanks.

We couldn’t resist crawling through it ourselves. It’s a fun way to get a fish-eye view.

Interactive touch tanks let you gently feel sharks, stingrays, starfish, and anemones.

A Perfect Ending

Before you head out, there’s a gift shop packed with ocean-themed souvenirs. I picked up a Christmas ornament and a coffee mug, two of my favorite kinds of keepsakes from any trip.

Our Take on the Branson Aquarium

The Branson Aquarium at the Boardwalk may not be the biggest aquarium you’ll ever visit, but it’s creative and well-designed.
