For our time in Barcelona, we stayed five nights at Gran Hotel Barcino, a hotel in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter.

The location couldn’t have been better, surrounded by narrow medieval streets filled with cafés, shops, and history at every turn.

Just down the street is Plaça Sant Jaume, home to the Catalan government building and Barcelona’s City Hall.

It was the perfect spot for exploring the heart of the city on foot.

Our room was on a corner, giving us two different views, one down Carrer Jaume I and another along a charming side street.

From our windows, we could see the beautiful old buildings and watch the bustle below as people explored the Gothic Quarter.

Inside, the room was modern and comfortable.

We had two twin beds plus an extra bed, and there was plenty of space for our luggage. There was also a safe in the closet.

The décor felt sleek and calming with neutral tones and clean lines.

The bathroom was especially nice, with a walk-in shower that featured stone tile floors and a wave-patterned wall.

It was spotless.

Barcelona is known for its pickpockets, so I came prepared with this crossbody strap with a pouch. I clipped my phone to the strap and tucked the pouch safely in my pocket, secured to my belt loop. It gave me easy access to my essentials while keeping everything secure…perfect for exploring busy areas like the Gothic Quarter.

The only hiccup for us was the air conditioning. It worked fine, but it just didn’t get as cold as we like it at home. We prefer to sleep around 67 degrees Fahrenheit, and the room probably stayed closer to 75. We requested a fan, and the staff quickly brought one up, which helped a lot. The staff really were great, friendly, and accommodating throughout our stay.

The lobby area was stylish and comfortable, with lots of cozy leather seating.

It became one of our favorite places to relax after a morning of sightseeing. Sometimes we’d grab sandwiches or snacks from nearby cafés and bring them back to enjoy in the cool, quiet lobby. It was a nice spot for a mid-day break for lunch.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Gran Hotel Barcino. The location was unbeatable, the room was clean and comfortable, and the staff made us feel welcome.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter that’s close to everything, this one is an excellent choice. I’d absolutely stay here again next time we visit Barcelona.

Sun Princess Embarkation Day Lunch in the MDR
After boarding the Sun Princess just after 11 a.m., our cabin wasn’t ready yet, so we headed straight for lunch. With carry-on bags in tow, we decided the Main Dining Room would be a smarter choice than the buffet. That way, we could relax, set our bags aside, and enjoy a meal without juggling plates.…
DIY Shore Excursion from Genoa: Taking the Train to Monterosso, Cinque Terre
On our stop in Genoa, Italy, aboard the Sun Princess, we decided to skip the official ship excursions and take the train to Monterosso al Mare in the Cinque Terre on our own. I had researched ahead of time but found limited information about what to expect at Genoa’s Piazza Principe train station, so I’ll…

We had our eye on stateroom 14436, a deluxe balcony cabin located on the side of the “bubble,” where the ship curves out, and the premium deluxe balcony staterooms in the center have oversized balconies. By booking early,…
