Crater Lake National Park is home to the deepest and purest lake in the United States. The cobalt blue water rests in a volcanic crater creating a scene that is perfectly picturesque.
Rim Drive encircles the lake allowing visitors the opportunity to view the lake from various perspectives. However, keep in mind that this road that loops around the lake is only open to cars in the summer.
On East Rim Drive approximately 7 miles from the Steel Visitor Center, you’ll have a great view of my Crater Lake must-see sight, Phantom Ship.
Phantom Ship is a small island on the eastern side of the lake. It rises approximately 170 feet from the lake’s surface.
This tiny island is only 500 feet long but it makes a big visual impact. Phantom Ship is aptly named as it looks like a ghostly pirate ship adrift on the water.
Phantom Ship Overlook on East Rim Drive offers an excellent unobstructed view of this unique island. For an up close and personal view, be sure to take the Volcano Boat Cruise offered through Crater Lake Lodge.
Crater Lake National Park is breathtaking. Phantom Ship is only one of its many unique features. If you’ve not yet made the journey to see these blue waters, go ahead and add Crater Lake National Park to your bucket list now!
