Awesome Easy Arches Hike: Landscape Arch Trail

Utah’s Arches National Park is home to over 2000 known arches. This national park boasts the densest concentration of arches in the world! Here you will find the longest spanning stone arch in North America – Landscape Arch. Fortunately, the trail leading to this magnificent sight is both an awesome and easy hike!

The Landscape Arch Trail is actually part of the larger Devil’s Garden Trail located at the far end of Arches National Park Scenic Drive. It s about 18 miles from the visitor center. The parking lot for Devils Garden is large but fills quickly. So, it is best to arrive early if you are traveling during a peak season.

The portion of the Devils Garden trail that leads to Landscape Arch is a well maintained gravel trail that is quite wide and has little change in elevation. The out and back distance to Landscape Arch is less than 2 miles.

Landscape Arch Awesomeness

What makes Landscape Arch so awesome? The sheer size of this unique arch is mind boggling! Landscape Arch spans 290 feet! That’s almost the length of a football field!

At its center, Landscape Arch is only 11 feet thick. And, at the thinnest point, this span is only 6 feet!

One can’t help but gawk in awe at at this long thin span of stone precariously perched high above Arches National Park.

Arches National Park’s Landscape Arch Trail is an awesome easy hike that you will not want to miss. But, you might not want to wait too long to see this natural wonder. This long thin ribbon of rock will not last forever. Someday, the forces of nature that created this wonder will eventually cause its demise.

  1. We found that hike a bit trying as we did it in mid afternoon on a very warm Spring day in 2016. Better to do this trail early in the day before the sun becomes intense.

    1. Yes! The sun can be quite intense at Arches even when the temp isn’t that high. Going early is a good idea!
