A quick getaway turned into a memorable weekend in New York City for my Mom and me. In just a little over two days, we packed in sightseeing, delicious meals, an unforgettable show, and plenty of exploring. Here’s a look at our weekend adventure in the Big Apple!

Day 1 – Grand Central Secrets and a Sunset Cruise
We landed at LaGuardia around 10 a.m. and caught a cab into Manhattan, arriving at our hotel, the Sanctuary Hotel, by noon. After dropping off our bags, it was time to officially kick off the trip!

Our afternoon started with the Secrets of Grand Central Walking Tour. Meeting our guide under the famous constellation ceiling, we spent an hour and a half uncovering the hidden gems and history of this iconic terminal. It was a great way to see Grand Central in a whole new light.

Afterward, we headed to Kesté Pizza e Vino for an early dinner. Their Neapolitan pizza was absolutely delicious — a perfect pre-cruise meal.

At 6:30 p.m., we boarded the Circle Line Sunset Cruise. The views of the Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan, and the Brooklyn Bridge were stunning as the sun dipped behind the skyline. It was the perfect end to our first day.

Day 2 – Trains, Treats, and a Broadway Star
We kicked off Saturday morning with breakfast at Dough Donuts, a sweet start to the day, before diving into more exploring.

After breakfast, we headed to one of my favorite stops of the trip: the New York Transit Museum. Housed in a decommissioned subway station in Brooklyn, this museum was packed with fascinating artifacts — from a 100-year-old turnstile to a vintage “money room” exhibit explaining how subway fare used to be collected.

The highlight was walking through the historic subway cars on the lower level, where we could step aboard cars from different eras, some dating back to the 1920s.

For lunch, we found a gem called Panzerotti Bites, just a short walk from the museum. Picture little pockets of lightly fried dough stuffed with prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, and tomatoes — absolutely delicious! It was so good that we immediately ordered a second one.

After lunch, we took the subway back into Manhattan. We visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where the crowds were thick, but its beauty made it well worth it. We spent some time souvenir shopping in the Times Square area (which was absolutely packed!)

Next, we made a quick stop for a cookie and iced tea at Rockefeller Plaza.

After a little downtime at the hotel, we headed to Pasta Lovers for dinner — a hearty Italian meal featuring fried ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, and a chicken alfredo dish that really hit the spot before the evening’s main event.

At 7:15 p.m., we were at Radio City Music Hall for Hugh Jackman’s “From New York With Love” show. The energy was incredible! Hugh Jackman performed hits from Les MisĂ©rables, The Greatest Showman, and more, and his charisma lit up the stage.

Despite huge crowds, the staff at Radio City kept everything moving efficiently, from quick-moving merchandise lines to well-managed bathroom breaks.

After the show, we grabbed smoothies from a food truck and enjoyed a pleasant walk back to the hotel.

Weekend in New York City Day 3 – Chelsea Market and the High Line
On Sunday morning of our weekend in New York City, we checked out of our room and stored our luggage at the hotel before heading downtown for breakfast at Black Seed Bagels inside Chelsea Market. Their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches on everything bagels — along with a delicious cappuccino — made for a fantastic start to the day.

At 10:00 a.m., we met our guide Patrick for a semi-private tour of Chelsea Market, the High Line, and the Meatpacking District. As it turned out, we were the only two guests, so we got a private tour experience!

Patrick shared fascinating history about the area — from the days when Chelsea Market was a Nabisco factory (home of the original Oreo!) to how the High Line transformed from a disused rail line into one of New York’s most unique parks. The story about Jackie Kennedy Onassis helping save many of the Meatpacking District’s historic buildings was especially memorable.

After the tour, we treated ourselves to mini donuts from The Donuttery at Chelsea Market before heading back to the hotel to grab our bags and catch a cab to the airport.

New York never disappoints. Our weekend in New York City was packed with adventure, incredible food, and unforgettable experiences — a trip full of memories we’ll always treasure.

Until next time, New York!
